FAQ

Que :- What is Granite?
Ans :- Granite rocks are igneous rocks also known as “fire rocks” which were formed by slowly cooling pockets of magma that were trapped beneath the earth’s surface.  Granite is the hardest of all building stones with a very close grain, making it almost impervious to stain and uniquely applicable for any interior use.  If polished, it’s high-gloss finish will endure even in harsh environments.  These characteristics are ideal for countertops and flooring making granite a reliable stone for these applications.

Que :- Does granite scratch?
Ans :- Granite is one of the hardest materials on earth, but some granites are harder than others and some stones sold as granite are not technically (in a strict geology sense) “granite”. Diamond tools are necessary to cut and polish granite, and diamond is the only mineral able to scratch it easily. A harder granite can also scratch a softer granite, but in general granite is the most scratch resistant countertop material available.

Que :-  Can i put my hot pots and pans on my granite countertop?
Ans :- Granite can withstand heat over 450 degrees Fahrenheit. If necessary you can place your hot pots and pans directly on your granite countertop, however, we do not recommend leaving anything hot on the surface for an extended period of time.

Que :- I hear you have to seal a granite countertop. Is this true and what does this mean?
Ans :- Granite is a naturally porous stone but once sealed it is basically impermeable meaning it will not absorb or trap any bacteria or liquids. Granite is factory sealed before arriving in our warehouse and then resealed at the installation of your countertop. It is recommended that you reseal your countertop once a year. It is a simple process of applying a liquid coat to your countertop and allowing it to set for 24 hours. Granite Bazaar has such sealers made specifically for natural stone available for our customers.

Que :- What about everyday cleaning?
Ans :- A mild soap can be used to regularly clean your countertop. Stay away from abrasive cleaners and anything acidic especially when cleaning marble. Granite Bazaar also offers a full line of everyday cleaners formulated specifically for natural stone.
